Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to kill long after fighting has ended. According to the Landmine Monitor 2025, they killed or injured at least 6,279 people in 2024, the highest figure since 2020: 90% were civilians, and almost half of them were children. The report, published in December 2025, notes that Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are withdrawing from the treaty banning anti-personnel mines, and that contamination affects at least 57 states and other areas. This page shows who does this work and who pays for it.

The sector depends on a few donors, above all the United States. According to the report's authors, in 2025 the US funding freeze halted some programmes and closed others, and programmes in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Colombia, Tajikistan and Zimbabwe have already stopped (UN News).
