Institute for Sustainable Development Strategy (ISDS) Public Fund

National non-governmental organisation. Based in: Kyrgyzstan. Active at least since 2026. Main sector: multi-sector.

Our NGO is registered as a Public Fund (Certificate of state registration No. 121735- 3301-OF of 12.03.2012, INN 01203201210113, OKPO № 27730330). ISDS was founded in 2011 but got official registration on March 12, 2012. The mission of PF "ISDS" is to promote sustainable development by applying innovative approaches to address environmental, economic, and social challenges at local, regional, and global levels. As a local non-profit institution, we prioritize the values of biocultural diversity, integrating traditional ecological knowledge and fostering intergenerational learning to preserve and enhance local cultures and ecosystems. Our core activities focus on empowering communities, particularly women, to manage natural resources, adapt to climate change, and preserve biodiversity. Since 2012, we have implemented a range of projects aimed at conserving and revitalizing local agrobiodiversity, applying traditional ecological knowledge for sustainable land, forest, grassland, and water management, and addressing environmental challenges through education and advocacy. Key areas of our work include: • Revitalization of Local Agrobiodiversity: We focus on the conservation of local varieties of apples, apricots, medicinal herbs, and walnuts, as well as preserving orchards and nurseries that support biodiversity. • Empowering Women: We support women farmers by improving their access to land and enhancing their productive capacity, ensuring that women play a central role in sustainable development and resource management. • Supporting Traditional Knowledge Custodians: We encourage and promote the role of community members who preserve and pass down traditional ecological knowledge, strengthening their role in environmental decision-making. • Building Networks for Knowledge Exchange: Through initiatives like the “Nasyat” Network for Biocultural Diversity, we facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices among over 60 NGOs and community-based organizations, spanning 16 rural municipalities and 60 villages across Kyrgyzstan. • Raising Environmental Awareness: We increase local communities' awareness of environmental issues, particularly in specially protected natural territories, to promote sustainable practices and conservation efforts. • Climate Adaptation: We empower communities to adapt to climate change by combining traditional ecological knowledge with innovative practices, ensuring long-term resilience. At ISDS, we are committed to building a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient future for the communities we serve, while respecting and preserving their cultural heritage and natural resources.
